Getting Dressed with Eczema and TSW

Here's the third episode of #EverydayEczema - I recorded this video back in February 2019. In this episode, I share a big moment of progress in my skin healing journey around what it's like to put clothes on and get ready for the day.

#EverydayEczema is made up of personal anecdotes from my real life about what it's like to HAVE severe eczema, go through topical steroid withdrawal (TSW), and HEAL FROM IT. They are small moments of everyday life packed with big lessons, inspiration, and humor to help you get through your own healing journey and remind you that you are not alone.

Hey, it's Cassie, the naturalistic nurse. This story is something that happened to me the other day that was very, very exciting and cool, for me at least. ......... So, all last year, I was living in terrible physical pain, excruciating at times and thankfully I wasn't in school or working at that time so I was able to get by but only toward the end of last year was that pain really starting to decrease and it turned into more of a constant, constant discomfort and sometimes that discomfort was excruciating but I've noticed that this year over the past maybe only month or really maybe even the past 3 weeks I'm a lot more physically comfortable than I have ever been and Living in discomfort is really, really hard.

    [01:13-01:46]

Even similar to the pain, you just learn how to live with it because you can't just not live your life. You learn how to work with it and even though it's really difficult, you push through and you trudge on. So one thing that's always been hard for me since I started working at my current job is getting ready for work. And having to put my scrubs on knowing that I'm on a time restraint because I cannot be late for work is so hard sometimes.

    [01:46-02:21]

because I'm itchy all over and I could literally stand there scratching for 40 minutes but I can't because I have to be on time for work. So it's hard getting ready. ......... Just putting clothes on is really hard. And every time that I go to work, I always think, and you just have to grit your teeth and pray to your God that I hope that I feel a smidge of comfort by the time that this is over and that I get out of the house on time.

    [02:21-03:02]

it's been like that for months for like 8 months already and the other day I was getting ready for work and for some reason the last step of my outfit which is putting my jacket on always makes me feel really like the most uncomfortable and that's when I really just grit my teeth and run out of the house and hopefully like the distractions will distract me from how uncomfortable I am But the other day, I put my jacket on and I just took a second and realized, oh my god, I feel somewhat comfortable right now.

    [03:02-03:28]

......... And that feeling was so amazing when you have lived in physical pain for over a year, constantly. And then even then, the only relief that you get is healing to the point of feeling constant discomfort. Feeling comfortable when getting ready. Oh my god, I just, it was amazing. It was really amazing.

    [03:28-04:43]

......... Oh man. ......... So if you're trying to heal, and what I'm describing of all that pain and discomfort is what you feel every day, know that the days of feeling comfortable and pain-free are ahead of you because I mean I'm living proof and you know what I did work the next day and getting ready was really uncomfortable it was just like it normally is but I didn't care because had that feeling to hold on to of what had happened the previous day to know that you know that was the first time in since 2017 that I have felt that way getting ready putting clothes on and oh my god just that was one day and if you keep going then that one day is gonna come for you too and that one day is gonna become 2 days and 2 to three and soon that's gonna just be your life and you are not gonna be hindered by your eczema anymore oh my god If you liked this video, please give it a thumbs up and visit the rest of my blog at thenaturalisticnurse.com for more blog posts and videos about how to embrace an eczema-friendly lifestyle and more.
